Can You Become Dependent on a Vibrator?

Can You Become Dependent on a Vibrator?

For most women, a vibrator can deliver an orgasm much more quickly than manual stimulation, and often times, the vibrator-orgasm is much more powerful.

It's a huge payoff for fairly minimal effort, which makes it something you want to do again...and again and again. You could say the same thing for anything that consistently works and is incredibly convenient, like calling an Uber, drinking coffee when you need a jolt of energy, or listening to your favorite song 20 times in a row on Spotify.

We refute the idea of "guilty" pleasures - they're just pleasures! That said, when we do something that feels good over and over, it can become habit, which then becomes a new normal, making it difficult to accept anything less. Anyone who has weaned themselves off caffeine can attest to this struggle.

So, could a vibrator become the only thing you can eventually depend on for an orgasm?

As with most matters related to human sexuality, it's not a simple "yes" or "no".

There is the chance that your clitoris could start to become acclimated to the specific type and intensity of stimulation that vibrators can offer, but there haven't been any conclusive studies showing that acclimation could lead to a real dependency.

What we do know is that vaginas are flexible - not just in the giving-birth way, but in the sense that clitoral and vaginal sensitivity can ebb and flow over time, with lots of factors at play from masturbation habits, mindset, menopause, and more. If you've only used a vibrator (with consistent or growing vibration intensity) to orgasm over a period of time, you might find yourself needing a bit more than an average human might be able to accomplish with their hands, genitals, or tongue.

If you gradually lower the vibration intensity or take brief breaks from your vibrator to go back to some good old fashioned analog masturbation, you'll feel your sensitivity go back up. You could also feel heightened sensitivity when you're in the mood, or are feeling particularly into to your partner. Again, lots of factors at play.

However much "power" it takes for you to orgasm now isn't how much it will take forever. It all depends on what you become used to; if you mix things up every now and again, you're less likely to become used to any one particular way of getting off.

No matter what, even if you're vibing on the highest possible setting these days, using a vibrator will not "ruin" or "kill" your vagina. So we say have at it!
